Nomenclature, phases of disease Etiopathogenesis - models of action, external causes, internal causes Lesions -nature, evolution, duration, severity Pathology- Degeneration, amyloidosis, necrosis, apoptosis, autolysis, pigment accumulations and calcification. Objectives
Objectives
Learn the nomenclature employed in veterinary pathology and be able to apply it Understand and recognize the mechanisms and the dynamic evolution of lesions (pathogenesis). 3-Acquire knowledge on cellular pathology (intracellular and extracellular degeneration, necrosis and apoptosis) Acquire knowledge and learn to recognize macroscopically and microscopically inflammatory processes and tissue repair, vascular abnormalities, alterations in growth and neoplastic diseases. Know how to conduct an autopsy and the selection of samples for future histopathological, microbiological, virological, parasitological and toxicological exams. Know how to perform a histopathological diagnosis. To understand, recognise and acquire notions of biosafety associated with the handling of cadavers and the performance of necropsies.

Teaching methodologies
Theoretical: Interactive lecture supplemented by guided autonomous study. Practical: Observation of microscopic lesions based on digital slides and audiovisual materials with lesion descriptions. Continuous assessment: Continuous assessment in class. Passing requires a minimum grade of 9.5 out of 20. In each practical class, interest, work capacity, and participation will be evaluated, worth a total of 0.8 points per class. In class 4, biosafety concepts will be assessed (1 point). In classes 9 and 14, students will give oral presentations of slides studied in previous classes (2–3 slides per student, chosen at random), worth 6 points per class. Class 10 will be taught by the students themselves (1.4 points). Theoretical assessment through 2 mini-tests, with equal weighting. A minimum of 9.5 values is required to pass. The final grade for the course unit will be the average of the practical assessment (50%) and the theoretical assessment (50%).

"Regime de avaliação contínua intercalar
- É obrigatória a presença ao mínimo de 2/3 das aulas teóricas.
- É obrigatória a presença ao mínimo de 2/3 de nas aulas práticas/teórico-práticas e laboratoriais.
- Excetuam-se ao ponto 1 e 2 os alunos com Estatuto de trabalhador-estudante e outros aplicáveis. Para estes casos, é aplicado um regime suplementar de avaliação, para aferição de conhecimentos, que pode incluir trabalhos adicionais, prova escrita e/ou oral, definido pelo docente.
- Para aprovação a uma unidade curricular em regime de avaliação contínua, o aluno deve obter uma classificação igual ou superior a 9,5 valores
- Para a aprovação na componente prática, o aluno deve obter, na média ponderada de todos os momentos de avaliação, a classificação mínima de 9,5 valores.
- A nota final da UC é a média ponderada da avaliação teórica e prática.
- Podem transitar para o regime de exame as avaliações parcelares das componentes teóricas e práticas, obtidas durante a avaliação contínua.
- Em caso de não aprovação a uma das componentes, prática ou teórica, os alunos poderão realizar somente a componente em falta - prática ou teórica - nas épocas de exame subsequentes desse ano letivo.
Regime de exame:
