    Objectives

    Learning outcomes (LO) - At the end of this unit, the students will be able to:
    LO1 - Define the main concepts and scope of corporate finance
    LO2 - Evaluate bonds and common stocks
    LO3 - Understand the concepts of risk, return, and cost of capital; Explain the portfolio theory and the Capital Asset Pricing Model; Compute the WACC (Weighted Average Cost of Capital)
    LO4 - Explain the main theories of capital structure (Modigliani & Miller, trade-off, and pecking order); Understand the effects of corporate taxes, financial distress, and agency costs; Identify the main aspects and implications of payout policy
    LO5 - Prepare the elements and apply suitable techniques for valuing businesses and companies.
    LO6 - Understand the motives for mergers; Estimate merger gains and costs

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The following teaching methodologies (TM) will be used:
    TM1 - Expositional: presentation of the concepts and techniques related to the syllabus contents
    TM2 - Participative: analysis and resolution of cases
    TM3 - Self-study: utonomous work by the student
