    The course presents theoretical frameworks and conceptual tools for understanding group, organisational and social factors that influence human behaviour in an organisational context. It introduces the relationship between values and attitudes in organisations, group and organisational dynamics of power and influence, as well as organisational socialisation processes. This course, which is multidisciplinary in nature, introduces theoretical notions and presents empirical studies from Social Psychology, Sociology, Management and Communication Sciences, with a view to their application in the different fields of professional practice and research in Organisational Communication, taking into account the social context of diversity, equity and inclusion, digital and green transition. Thus, the UC seeks to promote the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs 4, 5, 8, 10 and 13.

    Objectives

    At the end of the semester, students should be able to achieve the following learning outcomes (LO):  LO1: Define and explain social values, using theoretical frameworks for analysing values;  LO2: Identify group structures and processes in an organisational context; LO3: Identify and explain power relations and influence tactics in teams and organisations;  LO4: identify and apply models, strategies and tactics for integrating new members into organisations.     Students will also develop the following transversal competences: Critical thinking; Research; Critical reading; Ability to summarise; Data analysis; Teamwork; Oral and written communication.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The course combines expository and active methodologies, centered on the students.The course adopts a teaching-learning methodology based on the presentation of theoretical content, accompanied by audiovisual materials with educational content (e.g. TedTalks, videos and podcasts with interviews with experts), as well as practical cases and quizzes.  As part of the continuous assessment, an oral presentation of the critical review of each research article is made by a group of students, followed by a critical commentary of the same article by another group, then extended to the class, promoting debate between students.  Continuous assessment is made up of 3 elements:1) a critical review of 2 scientific articles and a critical commentary on 2 articles, with an oral presentation; 2) an individual written assignment, with a pitch in class, to obtain feedback from peers and teachers 3) active participation in classroom activities.
