Objectives
Objectives
Knowledge about the importance of forest resources and their susceptibility to fire in Portugal. Knowledge about environmental, social and economic impacts of forest fires and the role of fire in ecosystems. Ability to understand and planning process and techniques for fire prevention. Ability to understand the relationships between fire intensity and fire impacts. Knowledge of legal instruments for forest management, fire prevention, surveillance and suppression. Knowledge about the organization, procedures and responsibilities of prevention, surveillance, detection and firefighting in Portugal. Capacity and skills to plan interventions to structural prevention, surveillance and first intervention. Knowledge, skills and competence to analyze fires, organization and planning of technical and combat tactics.

Teaching methodologies
Teaching methodologies
Teaching is based on classroom work and independent study. Theoretical-practical sessions include content presentation, discussion, and application to real cases, possibly involving experimental or field activities. Students actively participate and present their work. Tutorials support individual study. A practical assignment will be proposed and assessed, focusing on applying course content, while also encouraging creativity and research. This work promotes self-learning and deeper knowledge acquisition.

Assessment
Assessment
A avaliação do tipo contínuo, através da realização de trabalho prático (30%) e sua apresentação (10%) e, ainda, de dois testes de avaliação (30%+30%). Em cada momento de avaliação o estudante deve obter a classificação mínima de 8,5 valores. As componentes de avaliação contínua correspondentes a provas individuais escritas são passíveis de recurso para um exame final escrito com peso para a classificação final, natureza e complexidade equivalentes aos das provas realizadas.
