This curricular unit provides an introduction to the main historical, social, cultural, and intellectual transformations that have contributed to shaping the contemporary world. From the late eighteenth century onwards, it examines the processes of change and the major currents of thought that have shaped the development of societies up to the present day, considering the relationship between historical contexts and the emergence of different ideologies, doctrines, cultural movements, and forms of political and social organisation. The curricular unit adopts an approach focused on identifying major historical, doctrinal, and ideological continuities and ruptures, enabling students to understand the formation and transformation of key ideas and concepts in contemporary thought, while distinguishing historical facts from their interpretations and ideological constructions.
