Class Studies on the Peninsular Northwest

It is an interdisciplinary course unit dedicated to the historical, geographical, social, cultural, and political study of the area comprising Northern Portugal and Galicia. Its scope focuses on the identities, heritage, communities, mobility, and cross-border relations that shape this territory, examining it as a space where local, regional, national, European, and Lusophone dimensions intersect. Its inclusion in the study programme is justified by the importance of providing students with an in-depth understanding of the territorial, historical, and sociocultural context in which the University is situated, as well as with the skills required to understand and engage in professional and social contexts shaped by cross-border cooperation, European integration, and cultural diversity.

The method is theoretical-practical, using active methodologies (problem-based learning). It is based on the presentation and exposition of the program content, using, when relevant, the reading and analysis of texts, in order to promote student participation in the critical discussion of the issues presented. Assessment is continuous, in accordance with the Lusófona University Assessment Regulations. The AC consists of a test, worth 30%, preparation of a class event, worth 30%, and the elaboration of a work/project (written and oral presentation), worth 30%, and participation in classes, which is worth 10%. The final grade must be equal to or greater than 10 points.
