The course unit Strategic Management and Financial Sustainability develops knowledge and skills in strategic and financial analysis, planning and decision-making, applied to the specific context of social economy organizations. It addresses organizational diagnosis, strategy formulation and implementation, governance, leadership and social responsibility, integrating innovation and participation. Students develop skills in economic and financial analysis, investment appraisal, financing and cost of capital. The course unit also addresses sustainable finance and responsible investment, particularly ESG criteria and PRI, and examines the contribution of digitalization to organizational sustainability. It aims to equip students to design innovative, responsible and financially sustainable strategies aligned with organizational missions and social impact.

I - Strategic Analysis and Planning: concepts and models of strategic thought and planning; analysis of the external environment and internal resources; strategic planning in social economy organizations; social innovation and digital transformation. II - Strategy Formulation, Implementation and Governance: strategy formulation and implementation; business, functional and corporate strategies; organizational structures and culture; participatory management and ethical leadership; governance and social responsibility; strategic evaluation and control; alignment between strategy, mission, participation and social impact. III - Financial Management and Sustainability: financial function and economic-financial performance; investment appraisal; cost of capital and financing decisions; sustainable finance and responsible investment (PRI and ESG); ethics and financial sustainability; digitalization and information technologies.

Objectives
The course unit Strategic Management and Financial Sustainability aims to develop advanced knowledge and skills in strategic and financial planning, analysis and decision-making, considering the specific characteristics of social economy organizations. It equips students to apply strategic and financial management approaches that reconcile economic, social and environmental objectives, promoting innovation, accountability and organizational sustainability. The course unit addresses democratic governance, strategic planning, financial analysis, and investment appraisal under conditions of certainty, risk and uncertainty. It also covers financing and financial capitalization, cost of capital, digitalization and investment in information technologies, as well as the integration of responsible investment principles (PRI) and ESG criteria into decision-making, considering its ethical, social and environmental impacts.

Teaching methodologies
Teaching methodologies
Teaching methodologies combine multiple resources, including oral presentations supported by materials and interactive dialogue. Various methods will be employed, including collaborative learning (think-pair-share) and problem-based learning (PBL), across the following phases: problem analysis, self-directed and reflective learning, and solution presentation.

Assessment
A avaliação contínua basear-se-á na elaboração de uma ficha de leitura de um artigo científico publicado nas bases de dados de referência (WoS ou SCOPUS), com revisão por pares (Q1), na avaliação teórica individual (40%) e na elaboração de um trabalho de grupo: Plano Estratégico para uma empresa em que cada elemento do grupo apresenta uma ferramenta estratégica (60%).
Os estudantes que não passarem na avaliação contínua ou não a tiverem apresentado serão sujeitos a uma avaliação final sob a forma de exame (100%)
