Meeting 15th Meeting of CeiED Researchers
An interdisciplinary meeting on the challenges, reforms and horizons of doctoral education
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
The Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Education and Development (CeiED) will host its 15th Researchers’ Meeting from 9 to 11 July 2025, under the theme: “Past, Present and Future of Doctoral Education: Reflecting 20 Years after the Salzburg Principles”.
This meeting invites the academic community to critically reflect on two decades of transformation in doctoral education, driven by the Salzburg Principles and shaped by various political, scientific, and institutional agendas.
Over the past twenty years, doctoral programmes have evolved into more structured, international, and interdisciplinary models, aligned with contemporary challenges in science and society. Notable developments include the promotion of mobility, diversification of training paths, and an increasing focus on the advanced qualification of researchers. These changes have had a direct impact on scientific quality, the social relevance of research, and the ability to address global challenges.
Despite these advancements, significant challenges remain:
- Digitalisation of advanced training;
- Representation and inclusion within academia;
- Engagement between universities and society;
- Funding models;
- Employability and professional stability of PhD holders.
This 15th Meeting aims to be an open and interdisciplinary space for dialogue, critique, and the sharing of practices, bringing together students and researchers from diverse fields and backgrounds. The event seeks to assess the real impact of the reforms implemented, rethink the role of universities in doctoral training, and strengthen the commitment between knowledge production, social responsibility, and the sustainable future of science.
