Workshop “Being a Mentor” Training launches CLAIM’s Intercultural Mentoring Programme
Equipping mentors to promote a more inclusive and intercultural welcome

As part of the Intercultural Mentoring Programme, promoted by CLAIM – Centro Local de Apoio à Integração de Migrantes at Lusófona University, Training I – “Being a Mentor” will take place, aimed at teaching staff, staff members and students from third countries selected to take part in the programme.
The initiative follows the mentor recruitment process and aims to prepare participants to fulfil their role as support and guidance figures for migrant students, contributing to a more positive and inclusive welcoming and integration experience within the academic community.
The main objectives of the training are to equip mentors to work in intercultural contexts, deepen their understanding of the specificities of intercultural mentoring, develop communication and interpersonal skills, and prepare participants to deal with challenging situations that may arise throughout the mentoring process. It also aims to strengthen teamwork, cooperation and the development of a support network among mentors.
Programme
Training I – “Being a Mentor” will cover the following topics:
- Specificities of Intercultural Mentoring;
- Crisis intervention situations in mentoring contexts;
- Group dynamics.
The training will be delivered by Dr Mariana Claro, from the field of Psychology, and Prof. Hélia Bracons, from the field of Social Work, providing a space for reflection, experience sharing and the development of essential skills for the role of mentor.
