Conference Floods in Lisbon: The Solution
Are the floods in Lisbon a hopeless situation?
Are floods in Lisbon a hopeless situation? Could its effects have been exacerbated by climate change or resulting from a drainage system that is out of line with needs? What structural and non-structural measures can be adopted with a view to mitigating the effects of the floods that frequently hit Lisbon? What will change in response to this situation with the projected drainage solution and with construction scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2023? To answer these and other questions, this conference will feature, in the first part, a researcher from the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering involved in various studies of the Lisbon drainage system, which have been developed over recent times and the author of the Plano Geral Lisbon Drainage System (PGDL). In the second part, we will have the presentation of the person responsible for managing the construction, representing the consortium to which the works were awarded. In the third part, to finish, we will have the presentation of the coordinator of the PGDL team, from the Lisbon City Council who, among other aspects, will address the solution, both from the point of view of its importance for the control and minimization of the risks of floods, as well as the implications during the construction period.
