Open Class Social Work in a School Context: Practices and Challenges

The initiative aims to reflect on the place of this field within the school environment, the coordination of interventions involving pupils, families, educational teams and the community, as well as the main challenges facing professionals in the sector.

The session will feature Mafalda Brandão, a social worker at Agrupamento de Escolas Pinhal de Frades, and Inês Nicolau, a social worker at Agrupamento de Escolas Pedro Eanes Lobato. Drawing on their respective career paths and professional experience, the speakers will share practices, challenges and reflections on the day-to-day work of Social Work in schools.

Organised as part of the Estágio I curricular unit, under the responsibility of lecturers Nélson Ramalho and Ana Paula Garcia, the event is primarily intended for second-year students on the Bachelor's degree in Social Work who are beginning their curricular placement this academic year. It is also open to other students and professionals interested in the subject.

The event aims to provide a space for dialogue and the sharing of experiences, bringing academic training closer to professional practice and highlighting the vital contribution of Social Work to inclusion, participation and well-being in the school environment.
