Alongside the FilmEU Summit, the city of Sofia also hosts the WIRE Summit 2025, dedicated to artistic research within the context of the FilmEU alliance. Organised by NATFA – National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts, the summit brings together researchers, lecturers, students, and professionals to share methodologies, creative practices, and innovations in the field of practice-based artistic research.
Over four days, from 2 to 5 June, the programme includes keynotes, presentations of innovative projects, and the Artistic Research Exhibition 2025, celebrating the diversity and impact of artistic research across Europe.
Programme highlights:
- Keynote by Michael Schwab on "Working Expositionally" – A reflection on how creative practice can generate knowledge through “expositional” approaches, by the founding editor of the Journal for Artistic Research.
- Keynote by Rachel Garfield on "Methodologies, practice research and all that jazz" – An analysis of the tensions between speculative creative practice and more rigorous academic frameworks.
- Presentations of the Horizon Pilots – Projects such as Water as Time and Infamous Shipwrecks, connecting artistic practice with environmental awareness.
- Illumina Course – A hands-on workshop on drawing and sketching as research methods, led by Alexandra Ianchenko.
- ARE 2025: Artistic Research Exhibition – Official opening of the exhibition and guided tours.
