    This CU aims to: Expand students’ vocabulary range and fluency in English Develop students’ language skills for drama-related contexts Enhance pronunciation, articulation, and expressive delivery Build competence in functional English for professional and social situations, both orally (speaking on the phone) and in writing (emails). Provide communicational tools so students can express themselves efficiently, courteously and professionally in English in situations involving a formal presentations and the following Q and A Enable students to exchange points of view and opinions in English on topics pertaining to their field of education

    Syllabus

    Coming to terms with terminology – the language of drama and theatre productions. Specificities of English – elements of prosody. Speaking on the phone. Phone etiquette and language to use (scheduling/confirming appointments). Scripted and impromptu calls + voicemail messages Writing emails (requesting information, responding) Professional presentations: What makes a good presentation – key ideas. Structure (opening, development, concluding). Specific goals. Signalling and signposting. Questions and answers. Suitable linguistic and non-linguistic strategies.

    The main competencies to be acquired are: The ability to express him/herself fluently, clearly and concisely, orally and in writing The ability to make professional presentations, clearly and in a well-structured manner, using suitable language to signpost and create impact The ability to identify and use the correct terms related to theatre performances The ability to apply acquired knowledge in the discussion of ideas and proposals The ability to understand the rhythms, stresses and silences of English
  • Teaching methodologies

    Teaching methodologies

    Interactive lectures - short moments of presentation (to introduce or summarise) associated with audiovisual resources and demonstrations (real or simulations, and audio and video recordings), individual and small group activities, debates, case studies for discussion, role-play activities for practice and consolidation. This methodology will stimulate students to think, debate ideas, create solutions collaboratively and develop deep learning. Continual use of communicative activities to the detriment of formal lectures by the teacher, students do research and share information on the topics, individually and in group. Topics are given interdisciplinary approach, flipped classroom methodology, feedforward process to develop learning.
