Infrared Spectrophotometry / Spectroscopy 2.3. Spectrophotometry / Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy 2.4. Spectrophotometry / Flame Emission Spectroscopy 2.5 Basic concepts of validation of analytical methods. 3. Separative Techniques 3.1. Gas Phase Chromatography (GC) 3.2. High efficiency liquid chromatography (HPLC) 3.3. Electrophoresis 3.4- Hyphenated Techniques 4. Electroanalytical methods 5. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR-1-H, NMR-13C)  Practice PL1 - Determination of iron in water PL2-Determination of Acetylsalicylic Acid or Paracetamol in tablets PL3- Determination of Ca by atomic absorption PL4 - Determination of vinegar acidity PL5-Extraction of caffeine in samples PL6-Determination of caffeine in soft drinks by HPLC

    Objectives

    Acquire knowledge of the principles, instrumentation and applications of the most common analytical techniques, including atomic and molecular absorption spectroscopy, electrochemical and separative methods (chromatographic and electrophoretic); Acquire knowledge about the main extraction and handling processes of solid, liquid and gaseous samples; Know how to implement, develop and validate a method of analysis; Acquire laboratory practice in the use of equipment and know the operating principles, rules and safety conditions of each equipment;  Develop communication skills and work in groups; Develop critical thinking.
  • Teaching methodologies

    Teaching methodologies

    Study visits to learn about equipment such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, X-rays. Implementation of distance classes for extra student support with additional exercises for homework and better understanding of the subject.
