In this course an introductory exploration is made in an interdisciplinary field that unites economic principles with the requirements of environmental sustainability. The course intends to provide students with the basic tools for a deeper understanding of how it is possible to reconcile economic development with the conservation of natural resources and the environment.

Assessment
- Avaliação contínua: Serão feitas duas frequências durante o semestre. O aluno que obtem uma classificação igual ou superior a 10 valores em cada frequência
- Apresentação de um trabalho escrito individual ou em grupo e sua discussão (trabalho escrito 40%, apresentação 15%, discussão 45%)
- A classificação final é feita num base de zero a vinte e a nota será o resultado da média ponderada das duas frequências (70%) e do trabalho final (30%).
- Os discentes que tiveram uma nota final de 10 (dez) valores ou superior serão considerados aprovados.
- Os discentes que tiverem nota final inferior a 10 (dez) valores irão a exame final para aprovação na disciplina
Continuous assessment: There will be two tests during the semester. Students who obtain a grade equal to or higher than 10 in each test
Presentation of an individual or group written assignment and its discussion (written assignment 40%, presentation 15%, discussion 45%)
The final grade is based on a scale of zero to twenty, and the grade will be the weighted average of the two tests (70%) and the final paper (30%).
Students who obtain a final grade of 10 (ten) or higher will be considered to have passed.
Students who have a final grade lower than 10 (ten) points will take a final exam to pass the course
Alternatively, at the beginning of the semester, students can choose the non-continuous assessment mode. In this case, students will take an exam and must obtain a minimum grade of 9.5 to pass.
