    The objective of the course is to contribute to the training of technicians capable of assuming professional activities related to civil engineering, related to the planning, design and supervision of hydraulic works  and problem solving associated with water resources systems.

    It is intended that this training qualifies with the qualifications required to practice civil engineering and makes them suitable for the wide-ranging labor market, namely European and Lusophone.

    Objectives

    It is intended that the student acquires the following skills:fluidosdimmensionar

    • Knowledge of the fluids physics properties and mastery of the quantities and unit systems most used in hydraulics, solving problems presented in various unit systems;
    • mastery of the concept of flow, average velocity, flow energy, localized and continuous pressure drop;
    • calculate hydraulic systems, simple and integrating hydraulic machines (pumps and turbines);
    • calculation of continuous and localized pressure losses, based on different resistance laws; power line and piezometric tracing in hydraulic circuits;
    • design of hydraulic systems subjected to forces promoted by the flow.

    It is intended that this training in this study cycle promotes student interest in hydraulics in order to provide its evolution to obtain skills for the exercise of civil engineering linked to basic sanitation infrastructures and water resources.

  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The teaching methodologies and curricular unit are based on:

    1. theoretical classes, using the expository method of the subject, based on the presentation of power points developed specifically for the discipline. They are illustrated with photographs and descriptions of real examples to link academic knowledge with real knowledge;
    2. practical classes, which are based on the resolution of exercises on the subjects taught, comprising three phases: presentation of the statement, discussion of the doubts that arise and resolution of the exercise in question.

    To obtain the approval of the course the student will have to perform two continuous assessment tests, rated from 0 to 20, and the average test grade must be equal to or greater than 10.
