Presentation
Presentation
This course unit aims to contextualize Criminology within its historical evolution, situating it at the intersection of the social and behavioral sciences, politics, culture, and the economy. It offers an epistemological approach to the history of knowledge regarding crime and criminality. Rather than presenting a mere succession of schools of thought-a topic reserved for a different course unit-this course seeks to ensure students understand the development of this body of knowledge, starting from the earliest philosophical inquiries into crime.

Assessment will be based on attendance and participation in conferences and seminars organized by the course-requiring the submission of a report or a response to a question during the following class (40%)-and a comprehensive test covering the entire syllabus (60%). For each topic, the classes will highlight the political, socioeconomic, and cultural contexts of the eras that witnessed major historical transformations.
