Presentation
The UC covers the study of institutional responses to criminal phenomena, as well as the characterization of the Portuguese criminal prevention and reaction system. Its field of action lies at the interface between applied criminology and public security policies, with a focus on the intervention domains of crime prevention and reaction. Its relevance in the 1st cycle of studies in Criminology is fundamentally justified by the fact that this course unit aims to provide students with the necessary competencies to identify and know the bodies and attributions of the said system, as well as to master the competency framework in matters of criminal prevention and reaction, to critically analyse criminal policy measures and the role of Civil Society and the Media in the population's feeling of security, and to identify and assess the adequacy of General and Special Prevention measures to the specific case.
