Class Script techniques

  • Presentation

    Presentation

The Course Unit articulates screenwriting with the stages of pre-production, storyboard/layout and sound animatic, focusing on the transition from narrative idea to its visual and temporal organisation. It addresses areas such as premise, character, dramatic action, point of view, visual planning, rhythm, editing and sound, introducing students to methodologies used in the development of animation projects. The Course Unit is relevant within the study cycle as it consolidates essential skills for the creation, communication and development of narrative and visual proposals, preparing students for later units related to directing, art direction, editing and short film production.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

At the end of the semester, the student should understand the main procedures involved in developing a script and be able to characterize characters through writing and drawing, while considering the final film in which all elements will be integrated. The student should also have developed creative teamwork skills and be able to write a script for animation, taking into account the technique to be used. They should distinguish between formats, such as short films, feature films and series, adapting themes and structures accordingly. The student will develop a method for creating a storyboard and animatic from a script, understanding how this process fits into the development and pre-production workflow of an animated film. This work will be applied to an individual project, which also includes a graphic dossier for the design of characters, props and scenic environments.
  • Teaching methodologies

    Teaching methodologies

The Course Unit integrates teaching and learning methodologies based on the articulation between theoretical exposition, analysis of references, guided practice and tutorial supervision. The process privileges project-based learning, allowing students to progressively develop their own proposal, from scriptwriting to the graphic dossier, storyboard/layout and sound animatic. The methodology values experimentation, continuous revision and the integration of feedback, bringing academic work closer to professional development practices in animation. The use of phased submissions, in-class discussion, analysis of examples and individual supervision promotes autonomy, critical thinking and the consolidation of working methods applicable to both collaborative and authorial contexts.

  • Assessment

    Assessment

Entrega final: storyboard completo, animatic sonorizado e dossier gráfico desenvolvido a partir do guião previamente trabalhado. (Ponderação: 30%).

Assiduidade, cumprimento das tarefas propostas e envolvimento no acompanhamento tutorial do projeto. (Ponderação: 20%.)

    01-06-2027
