Presentation
This CU focuses on the historical development of physical practices, Physical Education and Sport, from ancient civilisations to the present day, considering their historical contexts and the meanings and functions attributed to them over time. Its scope encompasses the relationships between the body, education, culture and society, and the social, political, pedagogical and institutional transformations that have shaped Physical Education and Sport. Drawing on the History of Education, Social History and the History of the Body, it enables students to understand continuities and processes of change in related conceptions and practices. Within the study programme, the course unit provides a historical and conceptual framework for understanding Physical Education and Sport as educational, social and cultural phenomena, providing knowledge that supports learning throughout the programme.
