    - The End of the Old Regime, the formulation of the functions of the State; - Nationalisms; - Liberalism and social, political, and cultural revolutions; - The Industrial Revolution, labor, and demographic changes; - The Ages of the Great Wars; - The advent of totalitarianism; - Multilateralism, democratization, and independence; - The world of the Cold War; - The end of the USSR, European integration, and US hegemony; - The advent of populism, religious fundamentalism, and Islamic terrorism.

    Objectives

    The course is a general overview of the historical development of modern national and international politics, and International Relations and a historiographical survey of the processes of political change. The course further includes an introduction to different kinds of theoretical and methodological tools dealing with political history.
