Class Academic and Professional Competences in Tourism

  • Presentation

    Presentation

The course unit promotes the development of academic, personal and professional competences essential for integration into higher education and the progressive development of Tourism students' pathways. Through an applied, student-centred approach, it develops organisation and autonomy, communication, critical thinking, academic and digital literacy, academic integrity, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence. The professional dimension focuses on exploring tourism professions and organisations, engaging with industry professionals, and reflecting on competences, motivations and professional identity. By connecting academic learning, self-awareness and industry realities, the course prepares students for responsible and increasingly autonomous participation in their academic and professional development.

  • Teaching methodologies

    Teaching methodologies

The course adopts active, student-centred methodologies, connecting academic learning, personal development and professional contexts. Methods include flipped classroom, case analysis, problem-solving, peer learning, simulations, reflection and self-analysis activities. Seminars with professionals from different tourism fields provide contact with real career paths, contexts and organisational cultures. PRO-FIT integrates these learning experiences through an individual professional positioning challenge in which students analyse an organisation, reflect on their profile and communicate their value proposition. Critical use of GenAI is integrated into guided academic and digital literacy activities.
