Class Technical English for Tourism III

  • Presentation

    Presentation

This CU aims to:  Develop vocabulary and fluency in English, in two specific situations of professional life - meetings and project management.  Provide students with communicational tools to enable them to express themselves efficiently, courteously and professionally in English, in situations involving exchange of opinions and discussion of ideas and proposals, with convergent and divergent points of view.  Consolidate students' ability to speak and write fluently and critically about relevant topics pertaining to the Tourismo and related industries, using the correct terminology.  Encourage students to become independent users of English. Consolidate CEFR level B1+→B2 and develop the mediation of concepts in professional presentations.

    Teaching methodologies

The unit takes a communicative approach (CLT) built around task-based language teaching (TBLT), starting from a brief needs analysis. Each module follows a task cycle: pre-task, authentic target task and language focus, with tasks such as delivering a professional presentation, managing a project and analysing a sustainability case. It integrates communication-centred practices (emergent language), mediation tasks (of text, concepts and communication) and online interaction (CEFR 2020), relevant to tourism service encounters and intercultural communicative competence.
