Class Tourism and the Sustainable Development Goals

This course is structured according to the SDGs and how they relate to tourism. It is important to reduce the impact of tourism on local communities and the environment. This means optimising the use of resources to avoid overconsumption, contributing to the conservation of the natural world, making a conscious effort to respect and contribute to the preservation of local traditions and heritage.   The core elements of the course include a discussion of the impacts of tourism (economic, social and environmental), sustainability issues, measuring and monitoring performance, 'ecotourism' and other 'alternative forms' of tourism. Definitions, principles, concepts and issues. Business and tourism management implications for ecotourism operations; community development dependent on sustainable use of natural resources.

Digital pedagogy tools like Padlet and Kahoot and project-bsed learning methods will be applied to evaluated activities. Student reflection and discussion will be stimulated using various techniques such as team-based learning.
