Presentation
The curricular unit of Architectural Design I, lasting one semester, consists of theoretical-practical classes, lasting 5 hours per week. Among the several objectives to be achieved, it is intended: To bring the student of architecture closer to the practice of the sketch configured as a creative process, referencing drawing as a way of thinking and communicating; explore the domain of architectural space through the representation of the object in its various dimensions; start the process of formalizing an author's language.

Objectives
Observation and representation processes - Structural elements of the graphic language - Diagrammatic structures - Standards of architectural design - Scale of the figure; proportion; framework; - Recognition of drawing expression with intensity and movement: Situate the themes drawn in time and space; Know the drawing procedures in perspective; Master the human scale in an architectural sketch; Know how to interpret and fuse images; Synthesize and communicate a creative idea through drawing; Use conceptual design to master the composition.

Teaching methodologies
Two themes are considered as starting points: - Theme 1 - The expressive capacity of graphics (abstract conceptual exercises) promoting the discovery of difference; the conscious repetition of gestures; configuration and enlargement; and illusory three-dimensionality (1); - Theme 2 - The active observation of models, with the discovery of simulation (immediate application of the potential of graphics) promoting expressive and spontaneous records of linear models; and the graphic communication of the same materiality in different formal situations. The constant themes are related to composition, the figure-background relationship and the relationship between figures (2). Complementarity with the European research program and the DAU Roadmaps

" Todos os alunos, inclusive alunos em Regime Especial, têm de efectuar o mínimo de 100% de momentos avaliativos entregues e apresentados em sala de aula, caso contrário não poderão ter aproveitamento positivo na UC.
O aluno que tenha efectuado 75% de momentos avaliativos entregues e apresentados em sala de aula entregará em exame elementos complementares do trabalho desenvolvido durante o semestre.
O aluno que não efectuou pelo menos 75% de momentos avaliativos entregues e apresentados em sala de aula, apresentará em exame, obrigatoriamente,os seguintes elementos:
- uma exposição oral;
- um texto explicativo e fundamentador do trabalho projetual desenvolvido, com cerca de 10 páginas;
- todos os elementos referentes às entregas passadas ocorridas na UC."
