Class Theory of Architecture I

  • Presentation

    Presentation

The unit of Theory of Architecture I proposes a theoretical and critical approach to the field of architecture according to a thematic and transversal perspective. To do this it selectively summons the large archive of the history of the discipline from the great issues and debates that formed and substantiated over time. The thematic approach followed allows students to acquire a comprehensive field of knowledge, structured by major themes of the discipline, referenced in the main authors and architects determining the investigation of these themes. The first intention of this curricular unit is essentially to provide students with fundamental theoretical knowledge of the discipline of architecture. The second intention is to provide instruments of theoretical research that allow the approximation between theory and practice of architecture.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

The unit of Theory of Architecture I, which begins in the 2nd cycle of the master's degree, connects with the History of Architecture units that integrate the curricular program of the bachelor degree. The Theory of Architecture I focuses on the disciplinary definition of architecture and the major themes that frame it. The objective of this unit is to deepen the theoretical knowledge of the discipline of architecture and, when considered appropriate, to make them operative in the architectural design practice. In this sense, following a transhistorical and thematic approach and not merely chronological and biographical one, it is intended to activate the entire archive of the discipline of architecture, both textual and iconographic, both critical and projectual. Starting from the present condition, it is tried to summon the fundamental questions, the moments and authors of the theoretical debate of the fundamental problems of the architecture according to a critical approach.
