Class Constructive Methods

  • Presentation

    Presentation

The Construction Methods course aims to deepen the understanding of the relationship between architectural design and the processes involved in its implementation, developing the ability to comprehend, select, integrate, and represent construction solutions. The course adopts a predominantly practical and applied approach, focused on understanding construction systems, the relationship between materials and components, interface resolution, and the ability to translate architectural decisions into technically coherent solutions. Learning articulates theoretical knowledge, critical analysis, experimentation, and problem-solving, promoting progressive autonomy in constructive decision-making. The course establishes a connection with the design course units of the same year, allowing the transfer and application of acquired knowledge in concrete design situations, without depending on a specific degree of project development at a particular stage of the semester.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

OA1. Understand the relationship between architectural design, construction, structure, materiality, and performance. OA2. Identify, analyze, and select appropriate construction systems and materials for different architectural situations. OA3. Understand the articulation between the different components of a building and resolve its main interfaces. OA4. Develop and represent constructive solutions with different levels of definition and detail. OA5. Critically evaluate constructive solutions considering performance, durability, maintenance, sustainability, and feasibility of execution. OA6. Use digital tools and other instruments to support research, development, and communication of constructive solutions in a critical and responsible manner.
  • Teaching methodologies

    Teaching methodologies

UC adopts innovative methodologies to support the teaching-learning process based on an active, experimental, and entirely student-centered model. The pedagogical process is structured around project-based learning and the resolution of practical problems in a workshop environment, promoting collaborative work and autonomy. Methodological innovation is reflected in the critical and responsible integration of advanced digital tools and Generative Artificial Intelligence, used as instruments for research, co-exploration, and representation. Complementarily, the continuous articulation between theoretical exposition, practical development, public presentations, peer assessment, and tutorial support ensures a progressive learning ecosystem, aligned with contemporary project and construction dynamics and practices.
