    This course unit includes the following program content: Introduction to minimally invasive equipment Principles of minimally invasive surgery Surgical techniques performed on a simulator Minimally invasive alternatives to traditional techniques Introduction to interventional radiology
  • Objectives

    Objectives

    This course aims to achieve the following objectives: Knowledge to be acquired: Understanding the fundamental principles and advantages of minimally invasive surgery; Identifying the main equipment, materials, and instruments used; Knowing the most recent developments in the areas of endoscopy, laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, and interventional radiology. Skills to be developed: Correctly handling the instruments and devices used; Performing specific technical tasks on simulators (physical and/or virtual); Selecting appropriate equipment and materials.   Competencies to be developed: Integrating acquired knowledge into the planning and simulated execution of minimally invasive procedures; Critically evaluating one's own technical performance, based on supervised feedback and objective metrics provided by the simulators; Applying clinical reasoning to indicate minimally invasive techniques in a well-founded manner.

    Teaching methodologies

    The teaching methodology is based on a practical, student-centered approach, combining lectures, technical demonstrations, supervised training in simulators, and formative assessment sessions. Virtual and physical simulators allow for active, safe, and repeatable learning, promoting the consolidation of technical skills before transitioning to the real clinical context. Additionally, students will be involved in: Bibliographic research and document analysis, promoting the development of critical thinking; Discussion of clinical cases, focusing on the integration of knowledge and the application of clinical reasoning; Processing and analysis of information, applied to the resolution of simulated clinical situations. Theoretical and theoretical-practical content will be made available to students through institutional digital platforms after each session, facilitating autonomous and continuous review.
