    The curricular unit focuses on the application of scientific research methods to the study of behavior and psychological processes in digital environments. It emphasizes the development of skills to design, conduct, and communicate research projects related to cyberspace, digital behavior, and e-therapy. The course addresses research design, sampling, measurement of psychological constructs, and data analysis, as well as ethical considerations in technology-mediated research. Its relevance lies in preparing students to critically develop and evaluate research in digital mental health contexts and to apply rigorous scientific methods in interdisciplinary settings involving Behavioral Sciences and technology.

    Objectives

    LO1: Acquire knowledge and tools necessary for the construction of research projects related to the field of Cyberspace, Behavior and eTherapy; LO2: Acquire knowledge on the necessary steps of research, from defining and elaborating research objectives and hypotheses, sampling techniques, selection criteria for the purposes of evaluating appropriate research contexts  LO3: Acquire competence for clear and established scientific writing.  LO4: Apply knowledge on all phases of a research project, conducting and critically evaluating projects related to the field of Cyberspace, Behavior and eTherapy.

    Expositive and demonstrative methodologies. Students will have access to the theoretical topics through the expository method, but in general, students will approach from a practical point of view the main research steps that lead to the writing of a research project, where they will be able to demonstrate the acquired competences.

    A avaliação contínua contempla a realização de um teste escrito (40%) sobre os conhecimentos teóricos das aulas expositivas, enquanto que as competências práticas são avaliadas através de um trabalho de grupo que consiste na elaboração de um projeto de investigação até 10 páginas (40%) e com apresentação oral por poster (20%). O Exame final tem a ponderação de 100%, incidindo nos conteúdos das aulas teóricas e práticas. A presença nas aulas é obrigatória. Espera-se que o desempenho nos diferentes momentos de avaliação garanta a aquisição de competências necessárias para a aprovação na UC.

    Continuous assessment involves a written test (40%) on the theoretical lectures, while the practical skills are evaluated through a group work consisting of the preparation of a research project up to 10 pages (40%) with oral presentation per poster (20%). The final exam focuses on the contents of the theoretical and practical classes (100%). Class attendance is mandatory. It is expected that the performance in the different moments of evaluation will guarantee the acquisition of the necessary skills for the approval in this curricular unit.
