The Curricular Unit in Public Policy Analysis aims to equip students with comprehensive theoretical, methodological, and practical foundations for the analysis of educational policies, emphasising their relationship to broader transformations in education and society, as well as to the evolving role and modes of intervention of the State.

A. The emergence of the scientific field of public policy: concepts of policy analysis and education policy. B. Models of education policy analysis: The relationship between education and social change, and between education and its forms of governance: the "globally structured agenda for education" and the "policy cycle approach"; Education policies from the perspective of public action: contexts of action, actors, and political decision-making. C. Political regulation of education: the role of the State, national dynamics, and the influence of international organisations.

Objectives
At the end of the Curricular Unit, students will be able to: Identify key concepts and models for analysing public policies; Develop skills to analyse educational policies in relation to social change and from the perspective of public action; Critically engage with research on educational policies in the context of the intensification and increasing complexity of political regulation.

Teaching methodologies
Teaching methodologies
The pedagogical methods focus on developing students’ research skills, collaborative work, theoretical–practical reflection, and critical analysis. These methods include: Theoretical exposition (presentation, exploration, and synthesis of programme content) conducted in dialogue with students; Analysis and discussion of written, iconographic, and audiovisual materials. Priority is given to the analysis of problem situations and case studies drawn from real research in the field of public policy analysis, with particular emphasis on educational policies. This work is carried out in subgroups and includes the presentation and discussion of results in plenary sessions.

- Participação nas atividades da unidade curricular: 25%
- Participação em pelo menos duas atividades de promoção da cultura científica (e.g., conferências, colóquios, webinars, visitas de estudo ou outras atividades): 10%
- Trabalho realizado em grupo e apresentado oralmente em sala de aula: 25%
- Trabalho escrito individual, realizado com recurso a ferramentas de IAGen limitadas à exploração generativa de dados para revisão bibliográfica e ortográfica. Em caso de dúvida, o/a estudante será convocado/a para uma prova de defesa oral, que determinará a classificação final a atribuir ao trabalho escrito: 40%
Estudantes com estatuto de trabalhador, para os quais não seja possível recolher elementos suficientes de avaliação contínua realizarão uma prova escrita individual, a realizar em data/hora queserá divulgada no Moodle da UC: 100%
Classificação final: a atribuir e escala numérica (0 a 20 valores).
