    2. Definition of main concepts: hazard, risk, disaster and catastrophe; risk perception; risk communication, risk analysis, risk management, risk governance

    4. Natural and Technological Risks
    5. Risks to human health: context and history of accidents
    6. Analysis of case studies (causes, consequences, control and mitigation measures)

  • Objectives

    Objectives

    Empower students to acquire basic knowledge related to risk management and communication and its application to support the resolution of global and complex problems. Analysis and risk assessment methodologies for human health and the environment resulting from exposure to environmental contaminants will be developed and applied. The multidimensions and visions of risk science will be discussed, and case studies of accidents and occurrences will be analyzed that allow the application of methodologies, including hazard identification and characterization, exposure assessment, dose-response assessment, risk characterization and management and communication of risks. Knowledge about the perception of risk and conditioning of the success of communication. Communication as an integral part of risk management and its use as a decision support tool. The importance of collaborative mechanisms in risk governance in the individual and the collective.

  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Expository/interrogative method; development of works and challenges using bibliographic research and the internet; the individual/group works, case studies have the objective of applying and amplifying acquired knowledge, reflection and discussion.

    Use of active learning methodologies, namely: Case Study Analysis; Brainstorming; Role Play, Mentimeter, Flipped Learning, Mind Maps, Systemic Thinking, privileging the 4 C's of Education (Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Creativity).

    Continuous assessment with attendance of students to a minimum of 2/3 of the classes, completion of worksheets and group work written and oral presentation, and debate. A frequency will be performed minimum grade 10(9,5). Works developed will have a weight of 60% in the evaluation and the frequency 40%.

    Written examination for unsuccessful students; minimum grade 10 (9.5).
