Class Fictional / Documentary Film Production

  • Presentation

    Presentation

This tutorial course is intended to support and develop an original film project - fictional, documentary, or hybrid - conceived as practical research in the field of cinema and included in artistic research within the scope of "project work." The work to be carried out may take different forms, adapting to the nature of the project and the student's path, with a focus on formal experimentation, creative autonomy, and critical reflection on the creative processes. Production takes place within a flexible, unconventional framework, in conjunction with teaching guidance and the technical and logistical resources provided by the University, using the document "Memorandum: Pedagogical-Scientific Framework, Procedures and Copyright" as a guide.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

The ability to determine the production requirements (pre-preparation and filming) and the post-production process based on the development of a film idea as part of the Film Studies degree (Project Work). In other words, the ability to conceive, develop and implement an authorial film project based on thematic, aesthetic and technical research. The course will equip students with the skills necessary for film planning and production, as well as the ability to master narrative or essayistic processes and reflect critically on the formal and conceptual choices of the work. The course will promote artistic autonomy, creative decision-making ability, and awareness of the ethical, technical, and authorial implications of filmmaking.
  • Teaching methodologies

    Teaching methodologies

Tutorial sessions focused on project requirements. The course adopts active learning methodologies and focuses on the autonomous development of original projects. Project-based learning forms the core of the course, enabling students to apply their theoretical and technical knowledge to the creation of a film, from the initial idea to pre-production. This process is guided by specialised tutoring to promote critical reflection, informed decision-making, and interdisciplinary dialogue in the form of 'artistic research'. This research will be linked to a critical point of view regarding the writing of an article in the following semester. Assessment is continuous, with formative feedback provided at key moments, such as the 'Work in Progress' stage, script analysis and production scheduling.
