    Objectives

    General objectives. This course aims to produce a body of artistic work and a written document relating to that work under the guidance of a teacher and, possibly, the co-supervision of other teachers relevant to the subject(s) under investigation. Specific objectives. Planning, implementation and public defense of the master's thesis as an artistic, academic and writing research project, aligned with criteria of quality and originality, relevant to the field of contemporary art and visual culture. Construction of a dissertation document in accordance with academic rules and of an exhibition assessing the application of research procedures on and through the arts and their philosophical, ethical and aesthetic implications, in awareness of the links between context, theory and practice in artistic research.
  • Teaching methodologies

    Teaching methodologies

    This phase of the master's research is carried out with weekly two-hour tutorials by the supervisor to ensure that the student has intellectual support, both in writing and in producing work. This monitoring ensures that the dissertation document has the quality required to be defended and is written in accordance with the required standards. It also ensures that the student continues their artistic project in a manner consistent with their theoretical-conceptual investigation, without making it illustrative, guaranteeing the plastic quality of the work and its autonomy in relation to any explanation or description. • Assessment

    Assessment

    A apresentação de Provas públicas tem duas componentes:

    1) Exposição do projeto artístico e portefólio;

    2) apresentação oral com um discurso explicativo e resumido do trabalho de dissertação perante um júri de avaliação e um público.

    A avaliação final da Prova pública é dada pelo júri numa escala de zero a vinte que tem uma equivalência qualitativa. As provas públicas são precedidas por uma reunião com todos os elementos do júri para decidirem se o documento de dissertação está em condições para ser defendido. Em caso afirmativo seguem-se as provas; em caso negativo, o estudante é informado das alterações de melhoria que deve fazer e voltar a apresentar o documento numa data posterior. Nesta altura, é novamente realizada uma reunião com todos os elementos do júri para decidirem se o documento de dissertação já se encontra em condições para ser defendido. Caso um membro do júri ou o estudante se encontre ausente do país ou impedido de estar presente na Prova de Defesa, é possível, com o acordo de todos (júri e estudante), realizar a prova a distância.

    Critérios de avaliação:

    • 20% Regularidade das conversas com o cumprimento dos objetivos estipulados (leituras, escrita, desenvolvimento de obra plástica);
    • 20% Rigor da pesquisa patente no documento de dissertação; qualidade da escrita e respeito pelas normas de formatação e citação;
    • 30% Desenvoltura do pensar-fazer plástico e visual (qualidade e pertinência) e na apresentação das obras.
    • 30% Apresentação e defesa no contexto das provas públicas: capacidade de comunicar a pesquisa e de responder às questões colocadas pelo júri; instalação/exposição das obras e portefólio.

    The presentation of Public Defense has two components:

    1) Exhibition of the artistic project and portfolio;

    2) Oral presentation with an explanatory and summarized discourse about the dissertation work for an evaluation jury and an audience.

    The final evaluation is given by the jury on a scale of zero to twenty, which has a qualitative equivalence. The Public Defense of the work is preceded by a meeting with all members of the jury to decide whether the dissertation document is in a position to be defended. If so, the public evidence follows; If not, the student is informed of the improvement changes that he/she must make and resubmit the document at a later date. At this point, a meeting is held again with all members of the jury to decide whether the dissertation document is ready to be defended. If a member of the jury or the student is absent from the country or unable to be present at the Public Defense, it is possible, with the agreement of everyone (jury and student), to carry it out remotely.

    Evaluation criteria:

    • 20% Regularity of the tutorial conversations with the fulfillment of stipulated objectives (reading, writing, development of visual work);
    • 20% Rigor of the research shown in the dissertation document; quality of the writing and respect for formatting and citation standards;
    • 30% Originality of plastic and visual thinking and doing (quality and relevance) and in the presentation of works.
    • 30% Presentation and defense in the context of the public proofs: ability to communicate the research and answer the questions posed by the jury; installation/exhibition of the works and portfolio.
