Class Water Policies, Economics and Governance Module - Public policies and instruments for water planning and management

This course addresses the institutional, policy and legal framework of water resources management, with a particular focus on planning and management instruments. It examines the role of public policies, planning tools and governance mechanisms in the implementation of sustainable water management strategies. Examples from national and European contexts are discussed, including the role of river basin management plans and the use of analytical tools and models to support planning processes.

Planning instruments in Portugal and their articulation with water management objectives. Mapping of the European legal framework for water resources management. Practical examples applied to national and European case studies.
