Professor Dr José Faria Costa, Director of the Faculty of Law of Lusófona University, took part in the presentation of the new edition of his work Lições de Direito Penal, one of the most significant reference works in the national legal landscape.
The session took place as part of the Book Fair, at the Pavilhão Lusíadas Sul, bringing together academics, legal professionals, students and readers interested in contemporary legal reflection.
The presentation was held in two parts: the first, dedicated to the book in general, as a tangible and handleable object, therefore sensory, which engages in a differentiated way higher cognitive functions, with undeniable advantage over electronic media, such as e-books and other forms of acquiring information, not necessarily knowledge, reorganised the paradigm of the multidimensional object of knowledge; the second emphasised the position of authorship and of the thinker who wishes and seeks to know and teach, as well as the theoretical-epistemological development of penal law, considered the alma mater of Law, since prohibition is foundational in civilisation, in particular the universal prohibition of incest, as an imperative aspect of humanity, citing Lévi-Strauss.
The new edition of Lições de Direito Penal represents an update and deepening of a work widely recognised for its scientific and pedagogical relevance, constituting a fundamental instrument for the study and understanding of criminal law.
The presence of Professor Dr José de Faria Costa at this event reinforces the commitment of the Faculty of Law of Lusófona University to the production and dissemination of excellent legal knowledge, contributing to academic debate and the enrichment of Portuguese legal culture.
The Faculty of Law congratulates its Director on this further important moment of knowledge sharing and on the continued valuing of legal thought in the public sphere.
