International Colloquium on Francisco Suárez’s Legal Philosophy
Academic discussions at Lusófona University explored the contemporary relevance of Suárez’s philosophy in law and political theory

The Faculty of Law of Lusófona University held, on 18 November 2025, the International Colloquium “Rethinking Francisco Suárez’s Legal Philosophy Today”, an academic meeting dedicated to contemporary reflection on the philosophical and legal legacy of Francisco Suárez, one of the central figures of modern scholastic thought.
The morning session took place in the José Araújo Auditorium, with presentations focused on Suárez's influence on legal philosophy and political theory. During the afternoon, the discussion continued in Room N.1.10, from 14h30, with a programme that explored the contemporary relevance of Suárez’s thought in relation to current legal and philosophical challenges.
The colloquium brought together national and international researchers, fostering a dialogue between tradition and modernity in the study of natural law and legal philosophy.
The afternoon session provided a space for sharing and critical reflection on the enduring impact of Suárez’s work on European legal culture.
