Lusófona University hosted, on 15 January 2026, MONITORING2026 – I Lusophone Conference on Infrastructure Monitoring and Sustainability, an event that brought together 264 participants in an online format.
The opening session featured an address by Engineer Bento Aires, President of the Ordem dos Engenheiros – Northern Region, who discussed the state of monitoring in Portugal, highlighting challenges and opportunities for engineering.
Structured around three thematic round tables (coastal management, buildings and bridges), the event promoted dialogue between academia, public entities and companies, reinforcing a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to infrastructure monitoring and sustainability.
This first edition also assumed a clear Lusophone vocation, aligned with the ambition to progressively engage the countries of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP). Within this framework, the programme included the participation of a speaker from Brazil in one of the round tables and a final address dedicated to the perspective of Angola, underlining the importance of cooperation and knowledge sharing within the Lusophone space.
MONITORING2026 marked the launch of a new initiative of Civil Engineering at Lusófona University, with a perspective of continuity and development towards future editions of international scope.
