Organic Garden Clean-Up Identifies Invasive Plant

During a recent clean-up operation in the area destined for Lusófona University's organic vegetable garden, an invasive plant was identified, known as cortadeira or erva das pampas, popularly called plumas. This species, although attractive, is harmful to the balance of the local ecosystem.

The activity, which saw the active participation of the students, aimed not only to remove the plant, but also to raise awareness of the importance of proper management of invasive species. The leaf cutter, if not correctly isolated and disposed of, can spread its seeds and reproduce rapidly, jeopardising the environment of the vegetable garden and surrounding areas.

With the support of the gardening team and volunteers, the plant was removed and disposed of safely, preventing it from spreading. This action emphasises the importance of teamwork and continuous vigilance in keeping the university's outdoor spaces healthy and productive. The initiative also reinforces Universidade Lusófona's commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation.
