Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
A new study, carried out by students from Lusófona University under the guidance of sociologist and professor Pedro Rodrigues Costa, mapped the profile of podcast listeners in Portugal. The study was based on a survey with 349 valid responses.
The results show that the typical podcast consumer is young, aged between 18 and 25, a university student, and mainly uses YouTube and Spotify to listen to this kind of content. Social media plays a key role in listening habits, with Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Spotify standing out as the main platforms for discovering new content. Most respondents listen to podcasts for one to three hours per week, preferring mixed formats that combine audio with visual or textual elements.
When it comes to the most popular themes, Portuguese listeners favor comedy shows, educational content, and celebrity-driven productions, with a special emphasis on locally produced podcasts.
This study, developed as part of Lusófona University, highlights the growth of podcasting in Portugal, especially among young people, and emphasizes the importance of digital platforms and social media in discovering and consuming new content.
