The 11th edition of Jornalismo Frankenstein brings Workshops to ULusófona

The 11th edition of Jornalismo Frankenstein: Media Workshops took place on 7 April at Lusófona University - Porto University Centre. The event was organised by final-year students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences, in the Communication and Journalism branch, as part of the Transmedia and Hybrid Narratives curricular unit, under the coordination of lecturer Vanessa Ribeiro Rodrigues.

This year, the initiative introduced a new format centred on workshops led by media professionals. The programme was divided into two distinct moments, referred to as chapters, which took place throughout the day. This event aimed to bring students closer to professional reality, bringing in communication professionals to “build bridges, foster dialogue, to better understand the world that awaits them, the labour market, but also to create an experience that is unforgettable to celebrate the end of the course”.

The workshops were dedicated to different areas of journalism and media production. Among the professionals involved were Fernando Coelho, journalist at Canal NOW and CMTV and a former student of the institution, who led the Television Journalism workshop; Mariana Vilela, also a former student, led the Voice and Podcast workshop; Rui Orlando, journalist at SportTV, who addressed the challenges and specificities of Sports Journalism; Joana Deusdado, an image editor with projects linked to RTP, was responsible for the Video Editing workshop; Luísa Pinto, journalist, editor and founder of Primitiva magazine, led the Narrative Journalism workshop; and Catarina Rocha, cultural photographer, was responsible for the Photography workshop. Before the start of each workshop, students had the opportunity to hear from all the guests and ask questions.

The diversity of topics covered allowed students to explore different languages and formats in an environment focused on the practical application of knowledge, better preparing them for the job market.
