ULusófona takes part in the XXIII Forte International Security Conference

Lecturer and researcher at the ULusófona Centre on Global Challenges (LusoGlobe), Sabrina Medeiros, took part in the XXIII Forte International Security Conference, held on 16 and 17 June 2026, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Organised by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS Brazil), in partnership with the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI) and the Delegation of the European Union to Brazil, the Forte Conference is an important platform for dialogue between Europe and Latin America in the fields of international security and defence. The 2026 edition, dedicated to the theme “Reprogramming Power: Technology and Geopolitics in a Fragmented World”, brought together representatives from different fields to discuss the impact of new technologies on security and the international order.

The lecturer represented Lusófona University as moderator of the panel “New Technologies and Contemporary Warfare: Drones, Lethal Autonomous Weapon Systems and Artificial Intelligence”, which featured Igor Marchesini, from CEBRI, Tomasz Smura, from the Casimir Pulaski Foundation, and Peter Neumann, from King’s College London.

The panel addressed the impact of artificial intelligence, drones, cyber capabilities and autonomous systems on the evolution of contemporary conflicts, as well as the challenges associated with the regulation of emerging military technologies and the adaptation of defence capabilities.
