  • Objectives

    Objectives

    The course aims to provide the knowledge of fundamental structural analysis methods. By the completion of this course the students should be able to: Formulate the flexibility and stiffness matrices of truss, beam and frame elements; Understand how the principles of virtual work relate to the force and displacement methods of structural analysis; Perform linear analysis of the reticulated hyperstatic structures (manually) to calculate displacements, reactions and internal stresses subject to various combinations of loading conditions; Develop the ability to make engineering analysis about structural behaviors
  • Teaching methodologies

    Teaching methodologies

    In the refered Curricular Unit, theoretical concepts will be linked with practical exercises. Collaboration among students and with the professor is encouraged during classes to work as a team in problem-solving. Students will be presented with topics and problems for the subsequent contextualization of the concepts. "Problem-Based Learning" (PBL) practices are highly valued in all classes of this specific Curricular Unit. The use of software for the analysis is also applied. Laboratory equipment will be used whenever appropriate to support the practical implementation of the course contents.

    Avaliação contínua:

    - Trabalhos práticos (20%), a realizar e entregar durante o período letivo.

    - Teste de avaliação escrito (40%), em data a marcar oportunamente.

    - Teste de avaliação escrito (40%), em data a marcar oportunamente.

     

    Avaliação por exame de recurso escrito (100%), em data a marcar oportunamente.

     

    É exigida uma classificação mínima de 6,0 valores em cada uma das componentes da avaliação contínua. O incumprimento desta condição limita a classificação final da unidade curricular a 9 valores.

    O docente poderá solicitar a discussão oral, individual, de qualquer elemento de avaliação, sem aviso prévio e apenas aos estudantes que entenda selecionar. A classificação poderá ser revista caso o estudante não demonstre domínio do trabalho apresentado.
