This curricular unit aims to equip students of a broad knowledge of the history of the European project from 1950 to the presente day. The goal is to understand how it works the European Union, guiding the transformations based on the revisions of the Community treaties, once EU is a community of law and a community of destiny, in fact an unfinished political project. The critical analysis of the European construction, in its effects ans dynamics, prepare students for next curricular units that direct and indirectly address the unique characteristics of the European Union.

- From the idea of Europe to the European project; - Theorizing the European Integration; - European construction: unity and cooperação; - Schuman Declaration and the founding fathers of Europe; - History of the Treaties: from Rome to Lisbon; - Enlargement, deepening and finishing - towards a federal Europe in line with the Maastricht promisse; - The future of the European Union and the various possible paths;

- Recognize the European Union as a political system; - Know the main stages of the construction of the European project; - Interpret the most significant changes in the revision of European treaties; - Understand the unique characteristics of the political and economic European project and respective reinforcement in the last decades; - Perceive the new directions of European integration so as to make the European Union a true global political actor;

Teaching methodologies
Teaching methodologies
Classes draw on the exposition, debate and deepening of the topics encompassed by the syllabus. Participation of the students will be encouraged in order to reinforce learning, assuming greater relevance on the moment of analysis and presentation of working groups related to topics taught in class. The contínuous evaluation encompasses: exam (50%) and one written group paper with respected oral presentation by each of the members (50%).

Data a combinar entre alunos e docente. Apresentação com uma duração mínima de 15 minutos, devendo enfatizar as ideias principais e conclusões da investigação. Os alunos poderão recorrer dos meios que considerem mais adequados para a realização do exercício. Segue-se um período de comentários e perguntas/respostas
A apresentação oral é obrigatória, tendo que participar todos os elementos do grupo, e juntamente com o trabalho de grupo escrito correspondem a metade da nota final. Os estudantes que concluírem a avaliação contínua com 8 ou 9 valores ficam aptos a realizar a prova oral
