    The curricular unit Fundamental Notions of Economics is a course offered in the 1st year of the Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management and Development. Its scope is to provide students with the essential concepts and tools to understand how a market economy works, in terms of microeconomics and macroeconomics. The course's field of action includes interpreting the economic environment in which organisations and workers operate, as well as critically reading economic indicators and aggregates. The relevance of this course within the Human Resource Management and Development programme lies in strengthening the economic literacy needed to contextualise people management. In this way, the course supports informed decision-making and serves as a foundation for subsequent courses related to the economic and institutional context of work.

    Objectives

    This course's main objective is to equip students in Human Resource Management and Development with a better understanding of the market economy, as well as of the models and methods used by economists to explain how it works.

    Teaching methodologies

    The teaching methodology is theoretical and practical, focusing on presentations, dialogue, collective reflection, practical exercises and the analysis of real cases with students. The teaching material is available on the Moodle platform.
