This 1st cycle Physical Education and Sports (PES) course, within the Sports Science domain, provides a foundation for any professional in this field. Its scope focuses on the study, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the training process, covering all stages of sports development, from initiation to high performance. The scope of this course extends to different practice contexts—schools, sports clubs, and gyms—and to multiple collective and individual sports, ensuring cross-disciplinary and applicable training. Areas of intervention include the development of physical capabilities, training organization, performance monitoring, and the relationship between training and recovery or competition. This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of training, integrating knowledge acquired in other courses and consolidating essential skills for qualified performance in PES.

Objectives
Objectives
The learning objectives (LOs) of this course are the development of fundamental knowledge and skills related to the main issues of training theory and methodology. Specifically, it is intended that students attending this course: LO.1) Acquire knowledge about the impact that a given training load has on the acute and chronic physiological responses; LO.2) Understand the fundamentals of exercise construction in light of biological, methodological, and structural principles; LO.3) Acquire knowledge and skills about training physical capacities; LO.4) Acquire knowledge and skills about structuring the training process, in order to be able to implement periodization to maximize athletic performance, both in individual and in collective sports. LO.5) Acquire knowledge about technical and tactical preparation in team and individual sports.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Different teaching methodologies (ME) will be used: Expository classes (ME.1), Resolution of practical cases, that is, Problem-Based Learning (ME.2), Viewing and discussion of documentaries/videos (ME.3), Bibliographic research (ME.4), Analysis of scientific articles (ME.5), Activities in small groups (ME.6), Information feedback provided by the teacher on the work carried out (ME.7).
