    This CU, Fitness Activities, is part of the 1st cycle in Physical Education and Sport, scientific area Physical Education and Sport. It aims to provide basic and updated knowledge regarding the main questions of fitness classes. It is intended that students who attend this UC acquire fundamental skills for the guidance of exercise in group classes, namely the ability to plan and guide an aerobic, strength, functional training, using several exercises taught in a musical cadence appropriate to the modality, with the capacity to develop the cardiorespiratory capacity, resistance, strength, agility, balance and flexibility of the participants. Understanding the methodological progression of teaching as well as the technical quality of students is crucial for the success and mastery of the teaching / learning process in fitness classes.

    1: Fitness Classes (Aerobics, Step, Strength Training Classes and Functional Training)

    - Know and apply the specific concepts and specific terminology of fitness classes;

    - Correctly execute specific motor skills;

    - Know and detect the most frequent errors of basic motor skills;

    - Identify and characterize the structure of group classes;

    - Identify the determining factors of intensity;

    - Identify the musical structure and know how to use it correctly during the performance of choreographies;

    - Identify and make the necessary adaptations in choreography and apply choreographic editing methods;

    - Apply instructional and communication techniques.

    2: Strenght training and Cardiofitness
    - Knowledge of the general training principles;
    - Knowledge of the theoretical concepts of aerobic training and strength training;

    - Knowledge of the fitness teacher's principles of action;

    - Type of exercises.

  • Objectives


    Identify the basic steps (execution technique), exercises, terms and definitions.
    Recognize the musical structure used in aerobics classes and the importance of it?s use.
    Know the effect of music speed on the posture, on the alignment and class intensity.
    Apply the techniques of the exercise progression and strategies for the performance correction.
    Know and use cardiofitness machines, weight machines and free weights.
    Develop the ability to guide and monitor in the muscle training and cardiofitness.
    Identify cardiovascular and strength training methods.
    Identify and apply the exercises according to cardiovascular conditioning, muscle conditioning (hypertrophy, muscular endurance), flexibility and body composition.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Different teaching methodologies (TMs) will be used: Demonstration, experimentation, and practical exercises (TM1), Pedagogical practices in simulated situations of planning, organization, and intervention in the context of teaching/learning (TM2), Resolution of practical cases (TM3), Viewing and discussion of documentaries/videos (TM4), Small group activities (TM5), Feedback provided by the professor on the work performed (TM6).
