Presentation
This course module will focus on Portuguese architectural production, specifically on the history of the reception of the Modern Movement in Portugal and the subsequent transformations up to the present day. It begins with the transition between the 19th and 20th centuries, when the Beaux-Arts influence was still evident in Portuguese architectural works and education, whilst not neglecting the international context. It thus plays an important role within the study programme as a whole, providing the essential theoretical tools for design practice (horizontal coordination) and reflecting on architectural issues that are relevant both chronologically and geographically (vertical coordination).

Objectives
Objectives
1. To interpret architecture and situate buildings within their historical context. 2. To understand the distinctive characteristics of "Portuguese Architecture" and its place within the international architectural landscape. 3. To analyse the works and their issues through representation in drawing, a privileged and precise tool for synthesis, establishing links with the parallel design process taking place in the Project IV module. 4. To engage in critical analysis through reflections that challenge mere historicist logic, an important tool for grounding the project and the future dissertation.

Teaching methodologies
Teaching methodologies
In the HAP1 course module, the content is presented to students and discussed collectively. Students are also encouraged to undertake individual, reflective reading, enabling them to develop their own informed perspective on the distinctive features of Portuguese architecture and thereby complement, in practice, the general overview of history. The close relationship between teacher and student enables monitoring of each student's skill acquisition, facilitating continuous assessment.

Assessment
Assessment
