Presentation
The CU explores concepts of culture in their relationship to communication and arts. The CU introduces key thinkers and theoretical fields within communication sciences, exploring the anthropological and sociological definitions of culture and their connection to artistic practices (e.g. high and low culture, mass culture). It will explore the implication of the work of visual representation, as well as its relationships to questions of power and legitimation of narratives, both hegemonic and counter-hegemonic. These theoretical discussions will be grounded in the analysis of several visual examples.

Objectives
Objectives
The main objective of this CU is to familiarise students with central debates in the field of studies, developing skills for a critical analysis and creation of artistic and communicational objects. By the end of the CU, students should be able to: - Identify and discuss different configurations of the concepts of culture and art. - Reflect about artistic practices as cultural phenomena. - Reflect about questions of representation and power, as emerging themes in culture, media, and arts. - Explore the studied theoretical concepts in light of visual examples, conducting critical image analyses. This CU also aims to develop transversal skills such as critical thinking and communication skills (written and oral).
