    The Degree in Communication Sciences offers a solid, market-oriented education across the main areas of communication, combining critical thinking, creativity, and professional practice. Structured around two specialization tracks ¿ Organizational Communication and Journalism Studies ¿ it enables students to define an academic path aligned with concrete career goals. Throughout the programme, students develop skills in content production, strategic communication, and critical media analysis, integrating theoretical training with a strong practical component supported by specialized faculty and professional-level facilities. With roots in over 25 years of academic experience ¿ as the successor to the Communication and Culture programme ¿ this degree, restructured in 2021¿2022, positions itself as a forward-looking programme aligned with the challenges of contemporary communication and today¿s media ecosystem.

    Students who have completed the 12th year and are interested in continuing their studies at university and in the field of communication sciences. Professionals who meet the conditions for entry into higher education and who wish to acquire knowledge and skills in the area. Students who have chosen to take courses at level 4 or 5 and intend to continue their studies in this degree.

    Technical and professional skills that I will acquire

    The curriculum develops core competencies for the contemporary market, including: - Media content production and editing, for journalism platforms and digital environments; - Strategic and organizational communication, including communication planning, branding, internal communication, marketing campaigns, and advertising content development; - Digital literacy and critical media analysis, fostering critical thinking, bias identification, and the ability to question media narratives in complex digital contexts.

    Career opportunities and career prospects

    ¿ Journalism and Media Production: reporting, web journalism, and work across print, radio, television, and digital platforms; ¿ Strategic and Institutional Communication: roles in communication departments, public administration, and press/communication advisory; ¿ Marketing, Advertising and Digital Communication: development and management of marketing strategies, advertising campaigns, and digital projects; ¿ Cultural Communication: cultural criticism in general and specialized media.

    During the academic year, there are workshops and conferences with researchers and professionals that bring different points of view to the study cycle, which are important for the identification and communication of objects and contents.

    Infrastructure and Equipment

    The programme benefits from advanced infrastructure and equipment from the Department of Communication Sciences and the Department of Film and Media Arts, supporting content production in journalistic, audiovisual, and organizational contexts. Students have access to professional studios and technology for both coursework and independent projects. Highlights: ¿ Audiovisual Production: multicamera TV studios, green screen (Chroma Key), and motion capture (MoCap); ¿ Professional Equipment: ARRI Alexa, RED Digital Cinema, and Sony Venice cameras, with high-end lenses and production gear; ¿ Sound: radio and sound studios with Pro Tools, Dolby Atmos, and ADR facilities; ¿ Post-production: editing and color grading labs (AVID, DaVinci Resolve); ¿ Academic Environment: computer labs, auditoriums, the Fernando Lopes Cinema, and equipment loan facilities.

    Students can participate in many projects, national and international, under development at CICANT (research center), allowing contact with the research processes and methodologies.

    Observations

    The study cycle has an important theoretical-practical aspect for the development of individual skills that allow the student to understand contemporary society, the company and the creation and dissemination of information. The degree offers a strong academic component and oriented towards the acquisition of specific skills, seeking to streamline the response to an increasingly competitive and demanding social environment in terms of professional and research opportunities. This cycle of studies provides, by branch of specialization, important resources for the development of sectorial analysis and crossover with other knowledge.
