The CU Gymnastics I fits into the student's training path in the 1st cycle in Physical Education and Sport, a scientific area of Physical Education and Sport. Provides essential basic skills that are transversal to professional performance, having as areas of activity and intervention domains, knowledge, description, interpretation, application and correct execution, with a focus on: less complex gymnastic elements; regulatory framework; educational philosophy and fundamentals of gymnastics; training session/Gymnastics class structure for school-aged children and young people; warm-up, specific preparation, methodological progressions for teaching and training physical skills; forms of teacher intervention and ability to recognize and correct technical errors, safety in practice.

PC1-Bases and Fundamentals of Gymnastics: Origins of gymnastics, regulation and judgment; Basic Gymnastics Concepts; Understanding Posture, Attitude, Body Segmentation; Definition of fundamental positions, fundamental directions; Gymnastic Movement Patterns; Basic Body Movements and Determining Motor Actions; Groups of Technical Elements, Acrobatic Skills; Jumps; Pivots; Balances; Displacements; Waves; Balances, Circumventions and Oscillations. The Game as a method of intervention in gymnastics activity. PC2 - Execution of basic gymnastic skills, without typical errors, including basic balances, rotations, gymnastic jumps, group technical elements, exercises to adapt to gymnastic equipment, fixed, mobile and portable; PC3 - Safety and risk reduction in intervention, Forms of help.

Objectives
O1. Understand gymnastics activity as a whole, including the origins of gymnastics, regulation, judgment, basic concepts, gymnastics equipment and specific nomenclature in competitive and non-competitive areas; O2.Acquire and apply knowledge regarding methodological progressions, including knowledge about gymnastics motor patterns, general and specific physical preparation, music and choreography, inherent to the practice of gymnastics in its various variants; O3. Experience basic gymnastic skills practices, without typical errors, including basic balances, rotations, gymnastic jumps, group technical elements, exercises to adapt to gymnastic equipment, fixed, mobile and portable; O4.Acquire basic notions of safety in practice and correct use of teacher intervention forms.

Teaching methodologies
Different methodologies of teaching (ME) will be used: demonstration, experimentation and practical exercising (ME1) Pedagogical practices in simulated planning situations, organizing and intervening in teaching/learning (ME2) Resolution of practical cases (ME3), Small group activities (ME4), Feedback information provided by the lecturer about developed work (ME5).

Assessment
A avaliação é contínua e é levada a cabo nos termos do Regulamento Geral de Avaliação da Universidade Lusófona (consultar o documento disponível no moodle). Diferentes instrumentos de avaliação serão utilizados: prova escrita teórica; prova prática individual; trabalho de grupo. As datas dos momentos de avaliação são comunicadas no início do semestre (a informação é colocada também no moodle).
Prova escrita téorica: frequência escrita que inclui toda a matéria prática e teórica abordada ao longo do semestre
Prova prática individual: elaboração de uma sequência de solo com elementos técnicos e elementos de ligação. Entrega de relatório com a sequência de execução
Trabalho de grupo: trabalho realizado em pequeno grupo com dois momentos de avaliação. Em ambos os momentos o trabalho é submetido pelo moodle e os alunos devem fazer uma apresentação oral e prática. Os docentes podem solicitar aos alunos uma reunião presencial para justificarem/defenderem algum conteúdo do trabalho.
